I Took My Skincare Routine Back to Basics…| ✨

Hey my loves! I hope you’re all doing amazing!

Today I wanted to share with you something that is probably highly controversial; minimising your skincare routine… eeeeeek. I promise it’s not as scary as it sounds!

So for a while my skin has been quite problematic. As you all probably know if you’ve read my blog in the past, I have oily but dehydrated skin that has just recently been prone to breakouts.

Doing the usual to combat my oily, dehydrated, spotty mess of a face, I’d exfoliate, cleanse, tone, moisturise, use serums, the whole shebang, and still my skin would be a nightmare.

My boyfriend is the one that actually suggested to me that I might be doing too much in my skincare routine daily, and my skin might be suffering from it. I had contemplated this in the past, but dismissed it; how could these lovely skincare products be harming my skin?!

I thought back to when I was younger, and all I really did to my skin was use cleansing makeup wipes (or baby wipes!), an exfoliator every now and again, and a moisturiser. Along with a weekly face mask, and my skin was always clear, and in amazing condition.

So I set about it. I just simply used my B. Micellar Cleansing Wipes (I highly recommend these, I have used them for years and are the best wipes I’ve ever tried!), my Superdrug Vitamin E cream at night, and my L’Oreal Hydra Genius in the morning, and after a few days I saw the results.

My skin had cleared and calmed down and looked noticeably better, to the point where my boyfriend commented on it immediately when he saw me make-up free.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a full, certified skincare junkie, and own enough to start my own shop! I have the ultimate faith in all of the products that I own, because at some point in my skincare routines’ life, they have made a difference.

However, I do think every now and again it is important to give your skin a break. I cut down to wipes and moisturiser because for me, they’re the two things I couldn’t miss out on, and it’s shown in my skin indefinitely.

I do still use my L’Oreal Pure Clay masks weekly too, as I believe they help to decongest and brighten my skin. They’re honestly my favourite masks of all time. You can check out my review of L’Oreal’s new skincare products here.

As far as everything else; I still exfoliate, just not as often, my body I exfoliate a hell of a lot because I tan a lot, but it’s always followed up by an intensive moisturiser, and my body skin isn’t the issue here! As far as cleanser, I’ve put that back in the cupboard for now, along with my toner and serums.

I did do a Glycolic peel a few days ago, (from Superdrug’s B. range, too!) as my skin was feeling a little congested, and my skin reacted well to it. So I think in moderation, a lot of skincare products on my skin is okay.

In the future, I will definitely be using a lot more skincare and different skincare because, as I mentioned earlier, I’m a little bit of a skincare addict and just love anything to do with it! But, I’m definitely going to listen to my skin more, and only do things like double cleanse, apply serums, overnight masks, etc, when it really needs it. As for now, my basic routine is making my skin the best it’s been in months and months, and I’m not mad about getting to bed 10 minutes earlier, either!

Thanks for reading lovelies,

Don’t forget to like & follow!

Lots of love,

L&L.

    1. Yeah I agree! I think the bog standard cleanse tone serum moisturise advice isn’t one size fits all and doesn’t work for everyone! It’s all trial and error I think definitely. Still love a good face scrub and mask along with my wipes and moisturiser, but leaving the cleansing and toning behind for now! Thanks for reading x

  1. This is a great post. Sometimes I feel like I’m doing way to much on my skin as well and I never know if I’m right or not. I think I’m going to cut back on my skincare routine as well. Thanks 💕

    1. Thanks so much! Yeah. I think the standard ” cleanse tone moisturise” isn’t one size fits all! Everyone’s skin has a different balance and I feel like it’s not talked about enough ❤️ thanks for reading xxx

  2. I’m a skincare junkie too! I’m so glad I finally understand my skin. Now I know what it needs and when it needs it! Some nights I may need a hydrating mask whereas other nights I may need a clarifying mask! I don’t have to do so many things at once. It’s nice to simplify sometimes!

    1. Exactly! That’s exactly the same as me I’ve discovered! I don’t think it’s talked about enough that some people have different skin balances and don’t need the excessive regimes every night! Xo
